OUTLOOK
The Cougars appear to be more than capable of successfully defending their league championship and getting to the playoff semifinals or beyond. Peet, in his second year as Cougar coach after last season’s successful debut, welcomes back three starters who averaged 35 points last season. Leading the returners is White (15-point average) whose outstanding guard play won first-team all-league, second team all-county and All-CIF honors. She forms a nucleus that includes forwards Susan Scott (12) and Howes (eight) who lend size and experience to the front line. Baker and Garrett, a 6-2 sophomore, add more size, so the Cougars should be more than able to hold their own on the backboards. Heyman and Theriault should help complement White in the backcourt. Pete has three promising newcomers in Lowe, Hysell and Johnson, a freshman. With good balance and a strong defense, the Cougars will represent a strong challenge to the rest of the league.
