Robbie Shelton
College: Cypress
Sport: Basketball
Position: Forward
Class: Sophomore
Shelton, who is 6 feet 7 but a skinny 200 pounds, is happy this season that he doesn’t have to play center as he did last season.
But the move to forward hasn’t proved much less punishing for Shelton, who has already had six stitches in his nose and cheek from an elbow thrown his way during the Mt. San Antonio game two weeks ago.
Shelton had single-game career highs in points (31) and rebounds (20) points as Cypress beat Golden West to take third place in the Cypress tournament Saturday.
He averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds in the tournament and is averaging 18 points and seven rebounds this season.
Other top performers:
Kevin Carlson of Fullerton, who scored 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting as the Hornets beat the Azusa Pacific JV, 116-70.
Antoine Jefferson of Saddleback, who averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Gauchos won twice.
Josh Lewis, who averaged 25 points and eight rebounds for Golden West, which finished fourth in the Cypress tournament.
