Rodriguez Fills In at Dove Canyon
Chi Chi Rodriguez, a longtime gallery favorite and the all-time earnings leader on the PGA Senior Tour with $3,740,267, will replace John Daly for this weekend’s Pro Stakes Golf Championship at Dove Canyon Country Club in South Orange County.
Daly, who will undergo alcohol rehabilitation, announced Tuesday that he is withdrawing temporarily from the PGA Tour.
The designed-for-television event pits Rodriguez, Fuzzy Zoeller, Peter Jacobsen and Craig Stadler and offers $500,000 in prize money.
The two-day, 18-hole competition includes $40,000 for the player with the lowest score. The bulk of the prize money, however, will be won or lost on the final nine holes Sunday when players will be able to wager points they earned Saturday on the front nine in areas such as longest drive in the fairway, closest to the pin, birdies and eagles.
