Bye Bye Broadway: Director Gene Saks has said goodby to the production of Neil Simon’s “The Goodbye Girl” headed for Broadway; director Michael Kidd will say hello to the musical. Producer Emanuel Azenberg, with whom Saks has worked on eight shows in the past, has let Saks go and hired Tony-winner Kidd, 73. Saks said Azenberg did not give a reason for the change, but insiders said the production was troubled. Kidd’s last New York musical was “The Music Man” in 1980. “The Goodbye Girl,” starring Bernadette Peters and Martin Short, is currently trying out in Chicago; it’s set to begin previews on Broadway Feb. 13.
