Venezuelan Police Fire on School Bus
CARACAS, Venezuela — Police Thursday fired tear gas and plastic pellets into a bus carrying about 80 schoolchildren, apparently mistaking them for university student protesters, witnesses said.
Some of the children, ages 4 to 10, were overcome by the gas and taken to the hospital at Venezuelan Central University, Simon Munoz Armas, rector of the university, said. He said there had been student protests earlier in the day at the university.
A board member of the University Employees Assn. said the bus was filled with children of employees who were returning home from school and day-care centers.
