CANOGA PARK : 2 Drivers Killed in Collision Identified
Authorities on Tuesday released the identities of two men killed when their pickup trucks collided on Grimes Canyon Road just north of California 118 near Moorpark.
Gerardo Garnica, 23, of Fillmore and Jose Romo, 31, of Canoga Park were killed in the head-on crash at 3:50 p.m. Monday.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene. California Highway Patrol investigators said that for unknown reasons, Romo crossed into Garnica’s path and caused the accident. It was not known how fast Garnica was traveling, but Romo’s speed was estimated at 60 m.p.h.
Ventura County Deputy Coroner Jim Wingate said an autopsy was performed Tuesday on Garnica and the cause of death was found to be multiple traumatic injuries. Romo’s autopsy was scheduled today.
There is no evidence that alcohol played a role in the crash, officials said.
