E. Whittier Schools : Officials Decide to Appoint New School Board Member
Trustees agreed recently to fill a vacant school board seat by appointment rather than by special election.
An election would have cost the East Whittier City School District about $65,000.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, registered voters and district residents. Applications are available from the district office at 14535 E. Whittier Blvd., Whittier. The deadline for applications is Feb. 12, and board members hope to swear in a replacement by the end of February, officials said.
The new board member will replace Paula Hodgin, who resigned last month so she and her husband could become commercial truck drivers. Her replacement will serve the remainder of her term, which lasts until November, when three of the five board seats will be on the ballot.
