AIDS Ribbons
Kudos to Martin Bernheimer for noting in his review of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s performance of John Corigliano’s Symphony No. 1, the “AIDS” Symphony, that the ushers at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion wore red AIDS awareness ribbons but that the performers did not.
The orchestra was approached prior to last summer’s Hollywood Bowl season in an effort to get them to wear ribbons during performances. The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra wore them; the Los Angeles Philharmonic did not.
The night after the “AIDS” Symphony concert, Patti LuPone performed at the Westwood Playhouse and the stage was red-beribboned. Please, Los Angeles Philharmonic, underline your timely performance of Corigliano’s symphony and wear ribbons. We will be happy to provide them. Just call.
