Loyola Drops Its Fourth in a Row : College basketball: Lions get 29 points and 10 rebounds from Mason, but little else as St. Mary’s wins, 93-74.
John Levitt scored 22 points to lead four St. Mary’s starters in double figures as the Gaels routed Loyola Marymount, 93-74, Friday night in a West Coast Conference game at Moraga, Calif.
Levitt also had 15 rebounds for St. Mary’s, which improved to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in the WCC.
“Any time you play a league game you have to come out ready to play,” Loyola Coach John Olive said. “All the teams in this league are hungry to knock each other off.”
The Lions (6-9, 1-2) did not appear so Friday night, or at all lately for that matter, as they have lost four consecutive games.
Loyola trailed, 35-24, at halftime and was unable to mount a serious threat against the Gaels.
“We put our press in, which was the best way that we saw of getting back into the ballgame,” Olive said.
The Lions also tried from long range, but managed only five-of-23 from three-point range.
“The best thing for us is that we’re able to turn around and play tomorrow and get this game behind us,” Olive said.
The Lions, who were led by junior forward Zan Mason with 29 points and 10 rebounds, play at San Francisco tonight.
