MAE and MADONNA : Come Up and See a Real Star Sometime
I have not been a fan of Mae, Marilyn or Madonna--just someone who has watched their effect on popular culture during their generations.
I agree that Mae and Madonna have reached their goals through a “calculated use of shock” but disagree with the “genius for self-publicity” statement. It never has taken a genius mentality to realize that sex sells.
Marilyn Monroe had a special gift. The woman oozed sexual appeal. Mae and Madonna work(ed) so hard at being sexy--the word contrived comes to mind--that I wonder if they enjoy(ed) the act they claim(ed) to be experts at.
Mae and Madonna have not been misunderstood. The audience is not that dumb.
