VENTURA : Man, 24, Found Shot to Death in Alley
Ventura police investigators were tight-lipped Thursday about circumstances surrounding the late-night shooting death of a Santa Paula man in the Ventura Avenue area.
Officers responding to a report of shots fired found Alfonso Garza Sanchez, 24, in the 200 block of an alley between Vince and Flint streets just before midnight Wednesday, said Ventura Police Lt. Dave Inglis.
An autopsy showed the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds, said Deputy Coroner Mitch Breese, who would not disclose the number of bullet wounds or their location.
Ventura Police Sgt. Roger Nustad said investigators are pursuing several leads in the slaying, but he would not disclose any details about the case.
The homicide occurred in an area that has been plagued by gang activity, but Santa Paula Police Sgt. George Brink said Sanchez is not one of the 125 known, active gang members in Santa Paula.
