Harrick Under Fire: Critics Cite Loss to Cal, Others See Big Picture

As a UCLA alumnus who has attended more than 450 Bruin basketball games, I refuse to judge my school’s coach on the basis of:

--The comments of reporters and talk-show hosts who can’t even manage their diets, but think they can coach a team.

--The whining of fans and alumni who arrive at games late (if at all), leave early and sit on their hands in between.

--The decision of some high school kid who may or may not be interested in a good education and a supportive coaching staff.

As I see it, Coach Harrick’s team comprises young men who attend class, try hard, respect their fans, stay out of trouble and succeed most of the time. That’s about all we should ask from a coach . . . or a parent.
