High Mexico Costs

Having just returned from a vacation in Los Cabos, I could not resist commenting on your piece (“The Cabo Cure,” Dec. 13), and in particular on the reviewer’s comments about the Palmilla Hotel. He could not understand why the AAA gave it such a low rating. I do.

For a hotel to charge its clients over $250 per day in Mexico (including 10% tax and 15% service on all items), one would expect impeccable service and quality accommodations. Rooms lacked full-length mirrors or telephones. Waiters did not know if the knives went on the left or the right. Napkins were forgotten. Fruit was allowed to rot in the room.

Everything at the Palmilla is money. Fishing is a whopping $300 for three hours and then the hotel-salaried boat captain spews at you for what he considers a miserable tip. Diving lessons are $90 for two people. Continental breakfast is free, but only if you get it in your room and reserve a specific time the night before.
