Some Kauai Hotels Are Now Open : Free guide lists every hotel, condo and B&B; that is recovering from Hurricane Iniki damage.

The Hawaiian island of Kauai, severely damaged by Hurricane Iniki last September, is back in the business of trying to attract travelers.

Some resorts in various parts of the island have reopened and are receiving guests. The Kauai chapter of the Hawaii Visitors Bureau has published the Hurricane Iniki Recovery Update, a listing of every lodging on Kauai, including condominiums and B&Bs;, and the status of each. Many are now taking advance reservations, though they may not be officially open for several more months. A toll-free Kauai Hotline--(800) 262-1400--has been established to answer questions about hotels and other services on the island. Travelers interested in obtaining the Hurricane Iniki Recovery Update, which also includes information on the current status of tour operators, golf courses and water sports/dive shops, should call the same number.

One of the more elegant hotels on Kauai’s North Shore, the Hanalei Bay Resort in Princeville, has announced a discount for seniors when it reopens in June. From then until the end of 1993, travelers over age 60 will receive a 20% discount off published room rates, which will result in savings of $26-$130 per night. A standard room listed for $130 per night will be reduced to $104. A one-bedroom suite with full kitchen facilities will rent for $216, a saving of $54 per night from the regular $270 rate. A “Senior Dream Deal” package gives travelers an opportunity to visit the Northern California coastal enclave of Santa Cruz and stay at the Dream Inn, a hotel located right on the beach, at a modest price. Regular rates at the Dream Inn range from $165 to $205 per night with no extra features included, but the Senior Dream Deal package is priced at $79.95 per weekday night for two persons and includes an ocean-front room with private balcony, complimentary breakfast for two persons, a cocktail for each person and a 2-for-1 dinner coupon for the resort’s ocean-view Twelve Winds restaurant. Additional nights are at the same price and include all of the extra features, except that a surcharge of $30 per room per night is levied if the extension carries over to a weekend night. A “Primetime Senior Program” is being offered to travelers by the Hotel Group of America, whose three hotels are in San Francisco. All of the hotels are a short distance from the city’s center, near Union Square. Each of the three offers a continental breakfast each day, a city map and a tote bag from Macy’s. Room discounts and other amenities vary with each of the three hotels, as follows:

* Hotel Union Square rack rate is $99H daily and up, reduced to $69.

* Hotel Diva rack rates begin at $115 and up, reduced to $85. Complimentary cookies and tea are served daily.

* Hotel Kensington Park rack rates are from $115 and up, reduced to $85. Complimentary tea and sherry daily.

Travelers who may be headed to Nashville, Tenn., capital of the country music industry, can get a number of lodging discounts:

* The Holiday Inn Express in Nashville offers 10% off its rack rate for travelers over 55, resulting in rates of $58.50 for two persons, valid through all of 1993. For information or reservations, call (800) HOLIDAY.
