BURBANK, CAHUENGA PASS : County OKs Funds for Traffic Study
Los Angeles County supervisors Tuesday approved spending up to $43,333 for a proposed study of ways to improve traffic flow in the congested Barham Boulevard-Cahuenga Boulevard corridor.
By a consent vote, the supervisors agreed to enter into an agreement with the cities of Los Angeles and Burbank to fund the traffic improvement study, which will cost an estimated $195,000. The Los Angeles County Transportation Commission has already allocated $65,000 to help fund the study, and the cities of Los Angeles and Burbank are expected to approve spending $43,333 each.
Traffic congestion in the corridor gets severe at times from the city of Burbank through Cahuenga Pass, particularly when there are night events at the Hollywood Bowl. The corridor, consisting of the two north-south surface streets, runs parallel to the Hollywood Freeway on both sides of the freeway just south of Universal City and north of Hollywood.
The study will be administered by the city of Burbank and conducted by Crain Associates and Linscott, Law & Greenspan Associates. It is expected to get under way immediately and to be completed within several months to meet a deadline for obtaining state funding for traffic improvement projects, county documents show.
The study will seek ways to change the lane configurations and look for other ways to improve traffic flow.
