COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Allbee Pitches Golden West’s First No-Hitter
Shawn Allbee pitched the first no-hitter in Golden West baseball history Saturday, striking out 15 batters to lead the Rustlers to a 10-0 victory over Palomar at Golden West.
Allbee, a freshman left-hander from Edison High, faced three batters more than the minimum to earn his first collegiate victory. Allbee allowed one walk, and two Palomar hitters reached base on Golden West errors.
Chris Larson was four for four with two home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored to lead a 15-hit attack for Golden West (5-5). Mike Moutrey and Joe Fraser each had two hits for the Rustlers. Palomar is 7-5.
In Orange Empire Conference baseball:
Orange Coast 12, Saddleback 10--Orange Coast rallied for three runs in the eighth to win at home in the conference opener. Paul McDaniels walked with the bases loaded to break a 10-10 tie, and Aaron Weiss had a sacrifice fly for OCC’s final run.
Randy Karliner, who earlier had a two-run triple, opened the eighth for OCC with a walk. Curtis Bruce bunted for a base hit. Greg Folsom walked to load the bases and one out later the first run of the inning scored on a throwing error.
T.J. Graber had three hits including two doubles and drove in two runs also for OCC (7-4, 1-0).
Saddleback got the tying runs on in the ninth with one out but but OCC pitcher Carlos Cevallos got the final two outs for the his first victory. Cevallos (1-0) walked one and allowed no hits in the final 1 1/3 innings for the victory.
Justin Drizos had three hits including a double and drove in two runs for Saddleback (8-2, 0-1), which led, 5-0, after scoring two runs in the top of the third.
