Pasadena Senior Wins Weekend in Seattle
A Pasadena high school senior is among five area students to win a weekend trip to Seattle for his essay on Burbank Airport. Brian Hooper, a student at John Muir High School, detailed the airport’s economic impact on the community. Last year the contest, sponsored by Friends of the Burbank Airport, sent five 9-year-olds on a day trip to Oakland. About 50 high school seniors from Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena schools entered the contest in September. The winners read their one-page essays--250 to 300 words--at an airport authority meeting in December. The winners will fly Saturday morning to Seattle, where they will tour an Alaska Airlines flight simulator and visit the Space Needle and the Museum of Flight.
