Hector Carreon School: Glenn High Sport: Wrestling Weight: 152 pounds Class: Senior Carreon won five of six matches in the CIF Southern Section Master’s Meet. He finished third in his weight division and earned a berth in the state championships this weekend at Stockton. Carreon won a state title last year in the 140-pound class. Other top prep performers: Shawn Caracoza, a senior guard on the Artesia High basketball team, scored 14 points in a 72-45 second-round victory over North Torrance, and followed with 21 points in a 57-45 quarterfinal victory over San Bernardino in the Southern Section II-A playoffs. Joe Austin, a junior guard for Lynwood High, scored 22 points in the Knights’ 86-83 victory over Wilson in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section I-AA basketball playoffs.
