Camarillo’s Fischer Clears 7 Feet in 1st Outdoor Meet of Season
Jeremy Fischer of Camarillo High opened his outdoor track and field season with a bang Wednesday by clearing 7-feet- 1/8 inch in a nonleague meet against visiting Ventura.
Fischer also won the long jump with a leap of 21-4, although Ventura won the meet, 77-58.
Fischer, who set his previous best of 6-11 1/2 in winning the Marmonte League championships last season, cleared the winning height on his second attempt after needing three attempts to get over 6-10.
The high-jump standards were set at 7-0 when Fischer cleared the bar, but officials discovered the bar was actually an eighth-inch higher after measuring it following Fischer’s jump.
Fischer, a junior, becomes the ninth high school athlete from the region to clear 7-0. He also moved to third on the all-time Ventura County list behind Ken Burke of Westlake (7-2 in 1984) and Gary Lawrence of Thousand Oaks (7-0 1/2 in ‘77).
