The New York Rangers obtained one of the NHL’s top defensive forwards, Esa Tikkanen, in a trade with the Edmonton Oilers, sending center Doug Weight to Edmonton.
A native of Helsinki, Finland, and a member of four Stanley Cup champion teams with the Oilers, Tikkanen ranked sixth on the team’s all-time list with 436 points.
