HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Fullmer, Montclair Prep Flex Their Muscles

Brad Fullmer hit his third home run of the week and sixth of the season, helping Montclair Prep defeat visiting Agoura, 12-6, Friday in a nonleague game.

Fullmer hit a two-run home run during an eight-run fourth inning that put the game away. Fullmer’s homer was followed by a homer by catcher Mike Gursey. Fullmer and Gursey have hit back-to-back home runs in two consecutive games.

Fullmer, who has signed to play at Stanford next season, is 14 for 25 with 16 runs batted in.

Sophomore Jared Sandler pitched a complete game for Montclair Prep (5-2). Agoura was led by Chris Vicioso, who was two for four with an RBI.

In other baseball games:

Quartz Hill 11, Antelope Valley 3--William Wallace’s sixth-inning, two-run home run--his third of the season--highlighted a 13-hit attack for the visiting Rebels in a Golden League opener. Chris Grado was three for four, including a double and a triple, and Freddie Coleman and Mike Kenney each went two for four.

Rio Mesa 11, Oxnard 1--Greg Spink threw a two-hitter and struck out five for Rio Mesa in a Channel League opener at Oxnard.

Spink, a senior right-hander, walked two and gave up no earned runs for Rio Mesa, the three-time defending league champion.

Manuel Perez had four hits and three RBIs for Rio Mesa (5-2), and Charles Boch had two hits and scored three runs.

Oak Park 13, Carpinteria 4--Oak Park (3-2) had 12 hits and stole seven bases in a Tri-Valley League opener at Carpinteria.

Damon Sterling was three for five with two RBIs and a stolen base. Eric Kane (1-0) struck out five in five innings. Kane and Chris Jensen each had two hits.

Providence 9, Yeshiva 1--Robert Mena pitched a one-hitter and struck out 18 in the Liberty League game at Foy Park in Burbank. Andrew Carney (two RBIs) and Casey Starr (one RBI) each had two hits for Providence (1-1).

Santa Clara 3, Moorpark 1--Fernando Garcia singled in Larry Casteneda and Eric Starna with one out in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie in the Frontier League opener at Santa Clara.

Patrick Redican pitched a three-hitter for Santa Clara (4-1) and Andy Maciel had two hits.

Adam Rauch had two hits for Moorpark (3-2).

L.A. Baptist 16, Crossroads 3--Junior Matt Hernandez was three for four with two RBIs, leading the Knights (5-3) to the championship of their tournament. Hernandez, who was seven for 11 in the tournament, was named MVP.

Freshman right-hander John Wilson, making his first varsity start, did not walk a batter in pitching a complete game. Ryan O’Connell was four for four.

Fillmore 3, Maranatha 1--Jerry Sandoval’s two-run double in the third inning proved decisive in a nonleague game at Fillmore. Louie Garza had a run-scoring single in the first.

Santa Paula 14, Nordhoff 4--The Cardinals had 17 hits, led by Raul Santa Rosa (three for three), Anthony Morales (three RBIs) and Robert Newman and Joseph Jaurgui, who each had two hits and two RBIs. Pitcher Brian Whittaker (3-0) had eight strikeouts.

Burbank 12, Bell-Jeff 6--Chris Cowan was two for three with two runs and an RBI and Gino Archuleta was two for two with three stolen bases, leading the Bulldogs (4-1) to a nonleague victory. Jeff Lamoureaux added three RBIs for Burbank. Bell-Jeff is 2-4.

Hoover 5, Arcadia 4 (8 inn.)--Ron Pirayoff hit a solo homer leading off the bottom of the eighth in a Pacific League game.

Sophomore right-hander Gerald De La Pena (1-0) pitched a two-hitter, but the Tornados (4-1, 1-0) committed four errors.

Bell-Jeff 1, Burroughs 0 (12 inn.)--Carrie Breedlove walked with the bases loaded in the 12th inning to force home Amy Hewitt in the nonleague game at Olive Park in Burbank.

Highland Hall 13, North Hills Prep 5--Sophomore right-hander Eric Trafton pitched a complete game, striking out 13 for the Hawks (1-3) in a nonleague game.

Faith Baptist 11, Kern Valley 8--Colby Carpenter hit a two-run home run, Mike Jimenez had a two-run double and Scott Davis had a two-run single as visiting Faith Baptist (1-3) scored seven runs in the second inning of a nonleague game.

SOFTBALL

Notre Dame 2, Chaminade 1 (8 inn.)--Lesley Feldman singled with two out in the eighth inning to score Michelle Gallo in a Mission League game. Feldman drove in both Notre Dame runs.

Alemany 4, St. Bernard 0--Sophomore right-hander Sophie Contreras (5-0) posted her fifth shutout and extended her 0.00 ERA to 35 innings. Alba Cano was two for two with two RBIs.

Oakwood 2, L.A. Lutheran 1--Freshman Suzie Vatz pitched a three-hitter in her first start and also had a two-run single for host Oakwood (4-1) in a nonleague game.

Moorpark 7, Santa Clara 2--Christina Fernandez struck out nine and walked one in pitching a complete game in a Frontier League opener. Junior first baseman Cher Tinnerello was two for four with two RBIs for Moorpark.

BOYS’ TRACK

Taft 81, Kennedy 46--Andre DeSaussure won the 100 meters (10.9 seconds), the 220-yard dash (22.6) and the 440 (50.1) to lead Taft to victory in the Northwest Valley Conference meet at Kennedy.

DeSaussure also anchored the Toreadors’ victorious 440 relay team, which timed 45.5.

North Hollywood 75, Canoga Park 52--Anson Credille won two events for host North Hollywood in the Valley Pac-8 Conference meet.

Credille leaped a personal best of 22 feet 11 inches in the long jump, the top mark in the region this season, and he bounded 42-8 in the triple jump.

Monroe 93, Grant 33--Jeff Nadeau won three events for visiting Monroe in the Valley Pac-8 Conference meet.

Nadeau cleared a season best of 6-6 in the high jump, and he also spanned 20-8 in the long jump and 41-3 in the triple jump.
