PREP ROUNDUP : Edison Freshman Girl Wins Four Events
Edison freshman Marie Philman won four events to help the Chargers to a 104-23 victory over Fountain Valley in a Sunset League girls’ track and field meet Thursday at Edison.
Philman won the shot put (35-4), discus (113-7), high jump (4-10) and 100 hurdles (16.2 seconds). Janna Evans won the 800 (2:25.9) and 1,600 (5:32.0) for the Chargers.
In Garden Grove League girls’ track and field:
Los Amigos 63.5, Bolsa Grande 61.5--Carmela Zavala, Tamara Ramsey and Spring Tramell each won two events for host Los Amigos (3-1 in league).
In Pacific Coast League girls’ track and field:
Laguna Hills 71, Trabuco Hills 56--Mayra Medina won the mile and two-mile for Laguna Hills.
In Sea View League girls’ track and field:
Newport Harbor 89, Tustin 38--Gina Heads won the shot put (43-2 1/2) and discus (126-6 1/4) for Newport Harbor and Liza Alexander won the 1,600 and 3,200 in 5:24.2 and 11:27.5 for Tustin.
Woodbridge 66, Corona del Mar 61--Angela Burgess won the shot put and discus and Julie Snyder won the 800 for visiting Woodbridge (3-0 in league).
In Empire League boys’ track and field:
Esperanza 79, Cypress 52--Tom Pellicer (161-9 1/2), Travis Kirschke (160-9 1/2), Travis McCullough (157-0) and Jim Stewart (156-4) swept the first four spots in the discus for Esperanza.
In Garden Grove League boys’ track and field:
Los Amigos 100, Bolsa Grande 22--Ricardo Payan won the 110 and 330 hurdles and George Vargas won the 440, high jump and ran on the winning 440 and mile-relay teams for host Los Amigos (3-1 in league).
La Quinta 72, Pacifica 55--Sergio Gonzales finished first in the 440 (55.0) for La Quinta (1-3). Gonzales also was on the winning 440 relay team (49.0) along with Ken Amoh, Cole Ramsey and Brad Bautista.
In Orange League boys’ track and field:
Brea-Olinda 88, Anaheim 43--Chris Conrad (shot put, discus) and Carl Daucher (mile, two mile) were double winners for Brea-Olinda (4-4, 1-0).
In Pacific Coast League boys’ track and field:
Century 104, Estancia 32--Senior Ben Kelly won the 100 (11.8) and the 200 (24.1) for Century (3-0, 1-0). Teammate Heang Chhim won events in the 110 hurdles (16.9) and the 300 hurdles (44.4).
In Pacific Coast League boys’ track and field:
Laguna Hills 78, Trabuco Hills 49--Frank Ha won the high jump, long jump and triple jump for Laguna Hills.
In Sea View League boys’ track and field:
Irvine 80, Santa Margarita 55--Jim Weston won the high jump, long jump and triple jump for host Irvine (3-1, 2-1 in league).
Newport Harbor 79, Tustin 51--Sky Peterka won the 1,600, finishing in 4:33.0, for Newport Harbor. Mike Gavar won the 3,200 in 10:08.0 and Reggie Curry won the long jump (18-6 1/2) and triple jump (42-1) for host Tustin.
Woodbridge 89, Corona del Mar 38--Tony Muniz won the long jump and triple jump for visiting Woodbridge (3-0 in league).
In South Coast League girls’ swimming:
San Clemente 118, Dana Hills 52--Theressa Mauck set school-records in 100 butterfly (1:00.33) and 100 freestyle (54.52) for host San Clemente (3-0 in league). Mauck qualified for the Southern Section meet in both events and teammate Kim Cobb qualified in the 200 individual medley (2:17.44).
In Century League golf:
Canyon 213, Orange 247--Sophomore Jessica Stiles shot a season-best five-over 40 to led Canyon (3-3, 1-0) at Green River.
In Empire League golf:
Esperanza 208, Katella 222--Ryan Donovan shot a one-over 36 for Esperanza (7-1, 2-0) at Anaheim Hills.
In Sunset League golf:
Fountain Valley 211, Ocean View 220--Clay Heneise shot a 40 for medalist honors for Fountain Valley (3-3, 2-1). Ocean View dropped to 6-6 and 1-3 after the match at Mile Square.
In Sea View League golf:
Newport Harbor 206, University 212--Peter Jackson shot a one-under par 36 and Morgan Anderson had a 38 for Newport Harbor (9-2, 3-1) at Costa Mesa Country Club.
In Orange League golf:
Brea-Olinda 203, Valencia 211--Jarrod Bruner shot an even-par 37 for visiting Brea-Olinda (7-0, 2-0) at Alta Vista. John Lee shot 38 for Valencia (6-2, 1-1).
In nonleague golf:
Trabuco Hills 409, Temecula Valley 461--Justin Grandy shot 78 for Trabuco Hills (8-0) to share medalist honors with Temecula Valley’s Jay Estoch. The match was played over two days at Redhawk and Coto de Caza.
In Freeway League tennis:
Sunny Hills 16, Buena Park 2--David Robbins, Joseph Gilbert, Joon Kuan each swept in singles for host Sunny Hills (7-0, 1-0). Gilbert and Kuan lost only one game between them.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Corona del Mar 11, Dana Hills 7--Trenton Rhodes (6-2, 7-5, 7-5) and Brian Walden (6-3, 6-1, 6-1) each swept for host Corona del Mar (8-1), which won eight of nine singles sets.
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Capistrano Valley 3, Poway 1--Senior Aaron Garcia had 28 kills, Evan Alexander had 22 and Eric Seiffert had 17 kills and seven blocks for host Capistrano Valley (6-0).
In nonleague baseball:
St. Margaret’s 11, Calvary Chapel Downey 8--Joey Powell and Lupe Rodriguez each had a two-run single in a seven-run sixth inning for St. Margaret’s (5-0), which rallied from a one-run deficit.
