Man Who Fired at Squad Car Is Killed
A young Compton man was killed Sunday morning by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in Lynwood after he fired at least 15 rounds into a squad car, authorities said.
The deputies were responding to a call about a man shooting a gun in the 12300 block of Edgebrook Avenue when he turned his fire on them, piercing the windows, windshield and doors of their car, said Ron Weber of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The dead man was identified as David Enrique Jimenez, 19.
Several bullets from the automatic weapon lodged in the seat of the car, Weber said. He said deputies in a second squad car arrived and began shooting at Jimenez when they saw him firing on the other officers.
Jimenez was shot “numerous times from several angles” by deputies, Weber said.
No deputies were injured. Authorities said they did not know why Jimenez had started shooting.
