Salsa Tops Atlante in Exhibition
FULLERTON — The Los Angeles Salsa scored two quick goals and hung on to defeat Atlante of Mexico, 2-1, in an exhibition soccer game Wednesday night at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Stadium.
Paulinho Criuma scored 11 minutes into the game on a penalty kick and Paul Wright scored an unassisted goal four minutes later for the Salsa.
Guillermo Cantu scored in the 63rd minute for Atlante, which plays in the Mexican professional league. Atlante outshot the Salsa, 12-4. Salsa goalkeeper Ian Feuer had seven saves.
The Salsa announced the signing of forward Waldir Guerra and midfielder Hector Alcaraz.
Guerra, a 26-year-old native of El Salvador who graduated from Bell High and attended Cal State Los Angeles, played with the Los Angeles Heat in 1990 and toured with the U.S. national “B” team from 1988-92.
Alcaraz, 27, has played extensively in the Mexican professional leagues.
