WESTMINSTER : Registration for Kindergarten to Start

The Westminster School District will accept registration for incoming kindergarten students starting April 19.

Classes begin Sept. 7 and students must be 5 years old by Dec. 2. District spokeswoman Audrey Brown said that they must also have received appropriate vaccinations, including three for polio, with the third coming after age 2.

Pupils must also have received four diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccinations, with the fourth one after age 2, and one measles-mumps-rubella vaccination after age 1. Furthermore, the district recommends, but does not require, a second measles-mumps-rubella shot upon starting kindergarten.

To register a child, a parent must provide proof of vaccinations and the child’s age, such as a birth certificate, Brown said.

The district has 14 elementary schools in the cities of Westminster, Huntington Beach and Garden Grove. For information on which school’s attendance area a child is in, call (714) 894-7311.
