AIDS AID: On May 22, look for some of your favorite pop artists to be working behind the counter at area record stores. No, the economy’s not that bad--Pat Benatar, L7, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Barry Manilow and others will be working the counters and cash registers to help raise money for LIFEbeat, a music industry organization providing care for HIV-positive people and AIDS patients.
Called CounterAID, the event will also feature pop stars working in record stores in New York and Nashville for four hours, with a portion of all sales made in that time going to LIFEbeat. Tower, Virgin Megastores, Music Plus and Wherehouse outlets will be participating, with other artists signed on for the L.A. shifts including the Lemonheads, Carnie and Wendy Wilson, PM Dawn and Susanna Hoffs.
