Hit-Run Suspect Escapes
LANCASTER — Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were searching Saturday for a suspected hit-and-run driver who gave authorities the slip after he wriggled out of his handcuffs as he awaited treatment at a Lancaster hospital.
James Mitchell, 21, of Llano was arrested about 9:20 p.m. Friday after he fled the scene of a traffic accident in which one other person was injured, according to sheriff’s reports. He was captured after pursuit by an off-duty Highway Patrol officer and foot chase by sheriff’s deputies.
