STUDIO CITY : St. Michael School Plans Cook-Off
Students at St. Michael & All Angels’ Parish and Day School in Studio City will compete Saturday in the 17th annual Coldwater Canyon chili cook-off to raise money for their school. The chili, prepared by students and faculty members, will be subject to the palates of a long list of celebrity judges from Cheech Marin to Debbie Boone.
Admission to the cook-off, to be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and open to the public, will be $5. The event is being hosted by the school’s parents’ association.
“It’s such a community event that frankly I don’t think people even realize it’s a fund-raiser,” said Tim Wilkins, an event organizer.
The cook-off is expected to draw an estimated 3,000 people and raise up to $80,000 for the private Catholic school at 3646 Coldwater Canyon Blvd.
Besides the chili contest, items associated with movie and television production will be auctioned, as will an opportunity to make a recording.
Many St. Michael parents are television or film celebrities, said Susie Supak, an administrative assistant at the school. “Fortunately, we’ve got some connections,” she said. “That makes this all happen.”
