PREP TENNIS ROUNDUP : Trabuco Hills in Driver’s Seat
Trabuco Hills got a big boost from its No. 3 singles player, Mario Mikula, to tie Laguna Beach for the Pacific Coast League lead with an 11-7 victory over the Artists Thursday afternoon at Trabuco Hills.
Mikula’s 7-6 tiebreaker victory over Laguna Beach’s No. 2 player, John Keith, in the second round allowed the Mustangs avenge Laguna Beach’s 11-7 victory over Trabuco Hills in the first round of play. In case of a tie for the league championship, the Mustangs would win on the basis of a 22-20 edge in total games in the two matches.
Trabuco Hills (15-2, 6-1 in league) was also paced by a sweep by its No. 2 doubles team of Nolan Cooper and Romit Shaw. Laguna Beach (12-5, 6-1) was led by a three-set sweep by its No. 1 singles player, Julian Zaifen.
