Thank you, Pauli Carnes. “The Bridges of Madison County” won my private award for worst book of the year. I plowed through it thinking the heroine would come to life somewhere along the line. She took no responsibility for her own dull life and must have been a real drag to her husband and family. She didn’t even have enough sense to get into a comfortable bed for her sexcapades.
