PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP : Huntington Beach Easily Beats Fountain Valley

Huntington Beach, the fourth-ranked boys’ volleyball team in Orange County, had little trouble with No. 10 Fountain Valley, beating the Barons, 15-7, 15-2, 15-9, Tuesday in a Sunset League match at Huntington Beach.

Outside hitter Steve Tsoneff had nine kills and three blocks for the Oilers (16-0, 13-0). Fountain Valley is 10-3 in league.

In another Sunset League match:

Santa Ana 3, Westminster 0--John Boyd and Carlos Bolanos had 15 and 11 kills, respectively, for Santa Ana (12-4, 9-4) in its 15-6, 15-5, 15-7 victory. Jose Diaz added 32 assists and four blocks for Santa Ana.

In the Century League:

El Modena 3, Western 0--Casey Shine had 10 kills and Kevin Ketchum had 33 assists for El Modena (8-5, 6-2).

Valencia 3, Villa Park 0--Duy Do had nine kills and Joe Reynoza had 10 blocks for Valencia (10-5, 8-1), which won, 15-2, 15-2, 15-4.

In Empire League boys’ volleyball:

Foothill 3, Los Alamitos 2--Outside hitter Rich Lambourne sparked Foothill (12-2, 6-2) to its 15-7, 14-16, 9-15, 15-11, 15-13 victory with 43 kills. Tim Tamas had 24 kills for Los Alamitos (9-6, 3-4). Foothill clinched second place in the league behind Esperanza.

In the Garden Grove League:

Rancho Alamitos 3, Santiago 0--Phil Tifrea had 15 kills and Jay Anderson had nine for Rancho Alamitos (12-3, 10-3), which won, 15-8, 15-4, 19-17.

Garden Grove 3, Bolsa 0--Middle blocker Seth Hall had 14 kills for Garden Grove (8-7, 6-5), which won, 15-6, 15-10, 15-4.

Los Amigos 3, Pacifica 2--Brian Laske had 20 kills and Kiet Tran had 15 as Los Amigos (9-4, 8-3) won, 10-15, 15-9, 13-15, 15-11, 15-8. Mike Parsons had 10 digs for Pacifica (4-10, 3-8).

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 3, Valley Christian 1--Philip Schildts had 24 kills and Matt Wright had 68 assists for Calvary Chapel (12-1, 8-1).

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 3, Mater Dei 0--Capistrano Valley (15-0, 9-0) outside hitters Steve Thornton and Evan Alexander had nine and eight kills in a 15-4, 15-12, 15-11 victory over host Mater Dei (5-10, 1-8).

Dana Hills 3, Mission Viejo 0--Dana Hills middle blocker Bobby Hefty had 14 kills in a 15-9, 15-7, 15-8 victory over Mission Viejo (1-8 in league).

San Clemente 3, El Toro 1--Gabe Gardner had 17 kills and Travis Eaton 14 to lead host San Clemente, 15-5, 10-15, 15-11, 15-8. San Clemente is 10-3, 6-3. El Toro is 5-4 in league.

In the Sea View League:

Tustin 3, Santa Margarita 0--Josh Rasmussen had 12 kills and Greg Logan had 10 to lift Tustin (7-8, 6-7) over the visiting Eagles.

Newport Harbor 3, University 1--Mitch McCoy had 19 kills and Todd Janeson 10 for Newport Harbor (12-3, 12-1), which won, 15-10, 15-3, 7-15, 15-11. Don Sun had 13 kills and 58 assists for University.

Irvine 3, Corona del Mar 2--Greg Wakeham had 39 kills for host Irvine (13-4, 12-1) which won, 16-14, 16-14, 4-15, 8-15, 15-5, 15-7. Brooks Hoppe had 23 kills and Kyle Thompson had 22 for the Sea Kings (7-10, 6-7).
