Moorpark’s Mustafa Leads Decathlon in State Finals
Isaiah Mustafa of Moorpark College leads the decathlon after five events heading into the second and final day of the California Community College track and field championships at Shasta College in Redding.
Moorpark’s Misty Goodnight is 10th in the women’s heptathlon with 2,159 points after four events and teammate Heather Hudson is 12th with 1,957. Sau Ying Chan of Mt. San Antonio leads with 3,073.
Mustafa compiled 3,679 points Friday. He won the decathlon long jump with a mark of 23 feet 8 1/4 inches, finished second in the 400-meter dash (51.57 seconds) and third in the high jump (6-4 3/4) and 100-meter dash (11.44).
Mustafa, a former basketball standout at Santa Clara High, is taking the meet moment to moment. “I’ll think about tomorrow tomorrow, when it happens,” he said.
Mark Aucutt of Ventura is second in the decathlon with 3,439 points after winning the 100 meters (11.3) and 400 meters (51.09).
Goodnight’s best performance in the women’s heptathlon was eighth place in the 200 meters (27.36). In the women’s 500-meter finals, Glendale’s America Rivas finished 11th in 19:12.16.
