Ambassador Posts
I am deeply concerned about the continuing failure of the Clinton Administration to fill key ambassadorial posts around the world. We are systematically telling our friends everywhere that we could care less about our relationships with them. Our embassies are rudderless for themost part. This reality is particularly important given the key role of American embassies to promote economic development abroad.
I am personally familiar with the fact that the embassies of our allies in most major capitals are powerful competitors in the development of major trade and other commercial opportunities.
We are now falling woefully behind while the Clinton people fail to fill important ambassadorships with people qualified to lead international business development opportunities through our embassies.
The situation is a disgrace. RICHARD G. CAPEN JR.
