Your Mortgage : Glendale Condo Association Honored for Active Owners

The Woodlane Village Homeowners Assn. in Glendale has been chosen as the 1993 Community Association of the Year for small associations (under 150 members) by Community Assns. Institute, (CAI), a nonprofit education and information group.

Woodlane Village is a 28-unit condo project that won high marks from CAI for its active committees--more than 70% of Woodlane owners participate on a committee.

The association was also awarded points for sponsoring a twice-a-year “Plumbing Day,” when residents may have minor plumbing work done and split the expense with another owner. The association also bought water heaters and offered them to residents for a discounted price on “Water Heater Day.”

A total of 36 finalists from regional contests throughout the United States competed in four size categories in the national program that singles out condo, townhouse and single-family homeowner associations that excel in all facets of operation.

“We were extremely surprised and honored to win the award,” said Robert Newcomb, president of the Woodlane association. “We have a good broad base of people who pitch in to make our association work.”

Woodlane was entered in the competition by Aberdeen Management Co., which manages the condo development.
