Highway Could Reopen by July 4th Weekend
The section of California 33 north of Ojai that has been closed since a February landslide is expected to be cleared and open to traffic as early as the July 4th weekend, California Department of Transportation officials said Tuesday.
Caltrans officials plan to award a contract today to a Simi Valley construction firm to remove the 50,000 cubic yards of mud and rock, spokeswoman Pat Reid said.
The contractor, C. A. Rasmussen Inc., will begin work on the $348,000 cleanup job June 17 and will have up to 34 days--or until July 22--to finish it.
