Jurisprudence
A Cincinnati jury failed to agree on a verdict and was dismissed in the trial of former Bengal running back Larry Kinnebrew, who was charged with raping a Cincinnati woman.
The Hamilton County Common Pleas Court jury told Judge Ann Marie Tracey on Monday that it was deadlocked, but she asked the jurors to try again. She dismissed the jurors Tuesday when they said they were still at odds.
A June 21 hearing was scheduled to determine when Kinnebrew should be retried.
Tennis
With Wimbledon set to start in 12 days, Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi are nursing injuries that might keep them from defending their titles.
Graf was treated at a hospital in Essen, Germany, for an injury suffered during her quarterfinal match in the French Open. She reportedly is suffering from periostitis, an inflammation of the membrane of the tissue covering a bone in her foot.
“She is no way certain to play” at Wimbledon, her father, Peter Graf, told Bild Zeitung, Germany’s mass-circulation newspaper.
Agassi, forced to skip the French Open because of tendinitis in his right wrist, had a cortisone shot on Monday and said he might have to have surgery.
It neither Graf nor Agassi plays, it would be the first time since the Open era began in 1968 that neither reigning singles champion has returned.
Also expected to miss Wimbledon is Sergi Bruguera, who won the French Open on Sunday. The Spaniard returned to Barcelona, indicating he had no interest in playing Wimbledon, which he has skipped the last two years.
