Monrovia : Water Bills to Increase

Monrovia residents will be paying about $3.65 more on their monthly water bills starting in August under a comprehensive series of increases in city fees passed unanimously Tuesday.

Finance Director Ken Nordhoff said library charges and many recreational program fees will not be increased, but increases will occur in city maintenance services, police and fire services and other areas.

The regular monthly fees that will increase include water rates, sewer fees and street-sweeping charges.

The City Council hopes to raise an additional $600,000 annually through increasing the fees, Nordhoff said, helping to close an anticipated $850,000 budget gap. The $27-million city budget is scheduled to be voted on at a special meeting in the Council Chambers at 7:30 p.m. on June 29.
