SEAL BEACH : Groups Receive $131,000 in Grants
A shelter for battered women tops the list of Seal Beach organizations that will share $131,000 in community development block grants, city officials announced this week.
This year’s allocation from the federal government is $41,000 more than what the city received in 1992.
Interval House, which provides temporary shelter to abused women and their children at shelters and “safe houses” throughout the county, received a $60,000 grant.
The organization was honored by the White House last year for its work in helping battered women start new lives. The program offers psychological support to the women as well as help in finding jobs and housing.
The city received a $50,000 grant to complete resurfacing work on several streets through the Old Town district.
A $9,500 grant was also given to support various youth programs in the city including after-school and summer activities.
The Orange County Caregiver Resource Center received a $1,500 grant. Some of that money will be used to fund a retreat for family members of Alzheimer’s disease patients.
