Solutions to Noise at Van Nuys Airport
* How ridiculous it is!
Throughout the day and early evening, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., only a few aircraft produce the most recurring noise at Van Nuys Airport.
These aircraft are piloted by tyro aviators doing “touch and go” landings--continually circulating while the student learns to fly.
Two possible solutions come to mind.
* Require trainer aircraft to have exhaust pipes pointing up or have silencers such as those used on Saugus race cars and desert dirt bikes.
* Allow trainer aircraft takeoffs and landings at Van Nuys but require touch-and-go practice to be conducted at a remote strip.
Los Angeles County can easily site or build an asphalt strip away from humanity to allow the training of pilots without bombarding the populace with noise, oil, fuel residue, parts and, most important, possible crashes.
