Michael Bolton enlisted producer Mutt Lange (AC/DC) to give a rock edge to at least one track on his next album. And Bolton reportedly has no plans to include any R&B; oldies--a usual feature of his albums--on this collection, which will be finished in the next few weeks. . . . A song co-written by Bob Dylan and Don and David Was that was rejected by Paula Abdul for her last album will be included in a new Was (Not Was) album. The funky track was originally called “Shirley Temple Doesn’t Live Here Anymore,” but Dylan changed it to “Mr. Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.” . . .

Soundgarden is preparing to start work on a new album with producer Michael Beinhorn before hitting the road opening shows for Neil Young. The album is due in early ’94. Meanwhile, Hater, a side project featuring Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd and drummer Matt Cameron, will release its first album on Sept. 21. . . .

Stevie Wonder is finishing up his first studio album in five years (not counting the “Jungle Fever” soundtrack). Motown is hoping to have it ready for an October release. . . . Teddy Pendergrass’ fall album will feature a duet with the soft-voiced crooner and soul screamer Patti LaBelle. . . .

An exercise video by underwear model Marky Mark may include some new music he made in collaboration with his brother, New Kid on the Block Donny Wahlberg. . . .

Director D.A. Pennebaker is shooting a video for Soul Asylum’s version of Victoria Williams’ “Summer of Drugs,” the single from the Williams tribute album “Sweet Relief” (see review, Page 59). Other “Sweet Relief” participants, including Lou Reed, Pearl Jam and Evan Dando, are expected to make cameo appearances in the clip. . . .

Speaking of Lou Reed, he’s the subject of “Waiting for the Man,” a biography written by respected English poet Jeremy Reed (no relation) that’s due for fall publication. . . . A live Nick Cave album, titled “Live Seeds,” and video, “Live at the Paradiso,” are due Sept. 1. . . .

A 1985 EP by L.A. band Psi-Com--fronted by a pre-Jane’s Addiction Perry Farrell--will be reissued by the small Triple X label in September. Only 1,500 copies of the original independent release were sold. Farrell helped with new cover art for the reissue and supervised its remastering. . . .

A decade after breaking up the Plimsouls, Peter Case has formed a new band, Drawing Blanks, with former Plimsouls guitarist Eddie Munoz, ex-Cruzados bassist Tony Marsico and drummer Michael Bannister. The group is working on an album for Geffen.
