MOTOR RACING ROUNDUP : Prost Wins Race After Hill Blows Tire
Frenchman Alain Prost won the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, Germany, after trailing for most of the race until hard-luck teammate Damon Hill blew a tire on his Williams-Renault with two laps remaining.
It was Prost’s seventh Formula One victory this season and 51st overall.
Prost completed the full 45 circuits of Hockenheim’s 4.2-mile track in 1 hour 18 minutes, 40.885 seconds, despite a 10-second penalty for a chicane violation in the first lap. His average speed was 134.235 m.p.h.
Hill took the lead at the start of the race and appeared sure of his first Grand Prix victory until his left back tire blew in the 43rd lap. He finished 15th.

P.J. Jones outdueled teammate Juan Fangio II to win the Monterey Camel GT auto race at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Calif.
Jones powered his Toyota Eagle MKIII into the lead on the 36th lap and held on for his second victory of the year.
Jones averaged 99.823 m.p.h. over the 2.214 mile circuit, covering 168 miles. His victory and Fangio’s runner-up finish clinched Toyota’s second consecutive Camel GTP manufacturer’s title.
Parker Johnstone and Dan Marvin teamed to drive their Acura Spice to victory in the Camel Lights class.

Mike Dunn, Cruz Pedregon and Bob Glidden each won at the 15th annual Mopar Parts Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo.
Dunn claimed his first top-fuel victory, Pedregon picked up his second win of the funny-car season and Glidden added his 84th career title in pro-stock competition.
Dunn won in 5.140 seconds at 271.82 m.p.h.
Pedregon took the funny-car title with a 5.489 at 263.38 in the McDonald’s Olds Cutlass and Glidden won the pro-stock title by finishing in 7.685 at 179.14.
