Lenny Dykstra drew Philadelphia’s 12th walk and scored on Dave Hollins’ two-out single, giving the Phillies an 8-7 victory over the Florida Marlins in 10 innings Saturday at Miami.

Philadelphia’s Darren Daulton drove in five runs with two homers against Jack Armstrong.

The Marlins missed a chance to tie the game in the 10th when Gary Sheffield was hit on the left foot by a batted ball while trying to steal third. The one-out grounder by Rich Renteria was heading for the hole between third base and shortstop, and likely would have scored Sheffield.

“I couldn’t get out of the way,” Sheffield said. “If I didn’t run, I would have scored. When it hit me I was thinking, ‘These guys are just lucky.’ ”

Benito Santiago popped up with two on to end the game.

The Phillies’ winning inning began with one out against Matt Turner (2-4). Dykstra walked, took second on Mariano Duncan’s single and both runners moved up on John Kruk’s fly to center. Hollins then lined a single off the glove of shortstop Walt Weiss.

Houston 6, San Francisco 5--The Astros hit three homers to offset a three-run shot by Barry Bonds at Houston, and Greg Swindell ended a personal four-game losing streak as the Astros beat the Giants for the first time.

Eric Anthony, Jeff Bagwell and Ken Caminiti connected for the Astros, giving them 96 home runs--matching their total for all of 1992.

Swindell (7-9), winless since June 23, retired 18 of the first 19 batters.

He worked 6 1/3 innings, giving up five hits while leading the Astros to their first victory over the Giants in eight meetings.

St. Louis 4, Chicago 1--Bob Tewksbury continued his mastery over the Cubs, and a booed Lee Smith got the final out to atone for a blown save at St. Louis.

Tewksbury (12-7) gave up five hits in 8 2/3 innings, struck out six and walked none. He is 3-0 this season and 8-2 in his career against his former team. The no-walks performance was the 14th in 23 starts for Tewksbury.

Smith, booed as he came in with two Cubs on base, struck out Sammy Sosa to get his major league-leading 38th save. On Friday night, Smith gave up a two-run homer to Kevin Roberson and a solo shot to Rick Wilkins as Chicago rallied in the ninth for a 6-4 victory.

Pittsburgh 2-8, New York 1-10--Chico Walker’s two-out pinch double in the seventh inning proved decisive, and the Mets ended the Pirates’ four-game winning streak in the second game of a doubleheader at New York.

Steve Cooke won a pitching duel with Dwight Gooden, and Jeff King hit a two-run double as the Pirates won the opener. King also drove in two runs in the second game.

Mike Maddux (1-6), the fourth of five New York pitchers, won the second game. Anthony Young earned his third save. Denny Neagle, (2-5), the fifth of six Pittsburgh pitchers who combined to give up 17 hits, was the loser.

Montreal 5, Atlanta 3--The Braves’ defense broke down in the 10th inning night, making four mistakes that gave the Expos two runs and a victory at Atlanta.

A collision in the outfield, a blown rundown, a balk and an error sent Atlanta to its third loss in a row.

Even with all of its problems, Atlanta almost pulled it out in the bottom of the 10th. The Braves put two runners on base with two outs and Fred McGriff hit a long drive to right field, but Moises Alou made a leaping catch at the wall.
