No More Excuses for Breaking the Law

* Regarding the column “Huntington Beach Should Lead Local Effort to Fight Racism” (Aug. 8):

We MUST STOP making excuses--the economy, lack of jobs, demographic changes--for anyone breaking the law, whether it’s for personal gain or intolerance of others.

There is no place in our city or county for any kind of criminal activities.

Huntington Beach is a wonderful place to live. Like other cities, there is an element of undesirables who should not get away with such antisocial behavior; conspiring to foment racial unrest in our community or nearby cities.

I am thankful that members of a skinhead gang were arrested recently. This is proof of the fine job our law enforcement agencies are doing in exposing those (who) live outside the law.

Residents must get involved with local police to combat crime in their neighborhoods. The police cannot do it alone. As Huntington Beach Police Chief Ron Lowenberg has stated, it is imperative to form partnerships with the local police department.

An excellent example is the Florida-Utica Task Force in Huntington Beach. The area was infested with drug dealers. With a cooperative effort (among) the police, property owners and residents of the area, those looking for drugs cannot find them in this neighborhood anymore.

And we’ll make sure it stays that way.
