ROCKIN’ ROGER: First Brother Roger Clinton finally...
ROCKIN’ ROGER: First Brother Roger Clinton finally finalized his much-publicized record deal. Rather than a contract with Atlantic Records, as widely reported, he’ll be recording for the small, Miami-based Pyramid Records, where he joins a roster that includes Joe Walsh and the current version of the Band. Pyramid is distributed by Rhino Records, which is in turn distributed by Atlantic.
“Roger recognizes that the best thing is for him to be on a small company where they can pay a lot of attention to him and he can take the time to develop his career,” says Atlantic Vice President Danny Goldberg, who helped arrange the Pyramid deal. “If he was on a big label, it would look like it was just a favor to the President.”
Pyramid co-owner Allen Jacobi says that he hopes to get Clinton into the studio soon to record some R&B; oldies and new songs for a project that will have some of the feel of “The Commitments.”
Any guest sax solo from the Oval Office?
“Absolutely not,” Jacobi says. “We have to make a great record that speaks for itself. Name recognition is very good, but if the record’s not good enough to follow up on that, it’s meaningless.”
