OXNARD : 4 Men Arrested After Attack in La Colonia
Oxnard police said Sunday they arrested four men suspected of attacking a group of men outside a convenience store in the city’s La Colonia neighborhood.
Three people were injured in the attack Saturday night, which began when they were confronted by four men outside the Stop ‘N Go market at 1st Street and Rose Avenue, police said. The two groups got into an argument and a fight ensued.
Two of the victims suffered gunshot wounds, police said, and the third victim was run over by a car.
Sidney Jones was one of those shot, police said. A spokeswoman at St. John’s Regional Medical Center said Jones, 38, was in critical condition Sunday with a wound to the stomach.
Police said Felton Jones also was shot. He was treated in the emergency room and released.
Cornelius Jones, who police said was hit by the suspects’ vehicle as they fled the scene, was not seen at St. John’s, hospital officials said.
Martin Cazares, Ralph Lopez, Justo Marquez and Jose Leon were arrested in connection with the violence, police said.
But officials at Ventura County Jail said they had only three of the men in custody: Lopez, 26, Marquez, 27, and Leon, 22. They were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and armed robbery and were being held on $20,000 bail each, according to jail officials.
Police on Sunday could not explain the armed-robbery charges or what happened to Cazares.
