PREP ROUNDUP : No. 10 Sunny Hills Starts Fast, Tops No. 8 Esperanza in Water Polo
Sunny Hills, ranked 10th in Orange County, took a four-goal lead in the first quarter and hung on to beat No. 8 Esperanza, 11-9, Friday in a nonleague water polo game.
Seann Schiele scored three goals for Sunny Hills (1-0). Ian Ching scored four for Esperanza.
In another nonleague water polo game:
Santa Ana Valley 9, Montebello 4--David Vega, with three goals, and brother Omar, with two, led Santa Ana Valley over visiting Montebello (1-1). Goalie Joe Valdez had six saves for Santa Ana Valley (2-0).
In the Bell Gardens water polo tournament:
La Habra 12, Magnolia 9--Dan Ploog and Bryan Vaden each scored five goals as La Habra (3-0) advanced to the championship round-robin games today at Bell Gardens High.
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Irvine 10, El Toro 8--Sarah Denson swept in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3, 6-1, for Irvine (3-0).
Woodbridge 18, Laguna Hills 0--Freshman Natalie Exon swept in No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0, for Woodbridge (1-0).
In nonleague girls’ volleyball:
Rancho Alamitos 3, Aliso Niguel 2--Angela Madill had 12 kills for host Rancho Alamitos, which defeated Aliso Niguel, 7-15, 15-9, 12-15, 15-6, 15-9. Rancho Alamitos is 1-0.
