GOLF ROUNDUP : Frost Continues Hot Streak
Defending champion David Frost of South Africa shot a seven-un-der-par 63 to join Dave Barr and D.A. Weibring atop the leader board after two rounds of the Hardee’s Classic Friday at Coal Valley, Ill.
Frost closed his bogey-free round with four consecutive birdies, finishing with a two-day total of nine-under 131.
A year ago, Frost led the Hardee’s by 10 strokes after two rounds on his way to winning the tournament. Frost, who won last week’s Canadian Open, said he has a “feeling” that good things are happening for him.
Barr, who won this tournament in 1981, sank a 68-foot birdie putt to finish a four-under 66.
Weibring had five birdies in a round of 65 as he made a bid to become the first three-time winner of the tournament.

Dale Douglass shot a six-under 66 and took a one-stroke lead after the first round of a senior tournament at Lexington, Ky.
Douglass, winless on the PGA Senior Tour since winning the Ameritech Senior Open in July of 1992, had six birdies and made a 50-foot putt to save par during his round on the 6,798-yard Kearney Hill Links course.
Douglass also rolled in a 20-footer on the par-three second and a 35-footer on the par-four fourth for birdies. His other birdies came on Nos. 7, 14 and 18, all par fives, and the par-four 11th to equal his best round on tour.

Brandie Burton shot her second consecutive four-under-par 68 and took a one-shot lead after the second round of the Safeco Classic at Kent, Wash.
Burton, 21, who needed only 2 1/2 years to win $1 million on the LPGA tour and has already won a major tournament, was just in front of Amy Benz, who shared the day’s best round at 65, and Helen Alfreddson and Rosie Jones, who each had a 67 on the 6,222-yard Meridian Valley Country Club course.
Another stroke back were Lauri Merten, 66, and Judy Dickinson, 67.
Tammie Green, who had a hole in one on the 138-yard eighth with a six-iron , and Hiromi Kobayashi were tied at 139.

England’s Mark James shot a four-under-par 66 and took a one-shot lead in the second round of the Lancome Trophy at Saint-Nom-La-Breteche, France.
Jones’ 36-hole total of 131 placed him ahead of Northern Ireland’s David Feherty, who shot 63. Tied for third at 133 were Englishmen Peter Baker, with a 67, and Peter Mitchell, who shot 66.
First-round leader Ian Woosnam of Wales dropped to a share of fifth at 134 after a 70. He was even with Scotland’s Sam Torrance, who shot 65.
Fred Couples shot 65 to go five under and move up into seventh place at 135.
“Five under isn’t a great score, but I hit the ball well today,” Couples said. “I saved par from 10 feet at the first, and that got me off to a good start.”
Nick Faldo shot 67 to tie for eighth place, a shot behind Couples. He played with Couples on Friday and will play against him in next week’s Ryder Cup.
