City-Owned Restaurant Sites Are Available
A second opportunity has opened up to operate a restaurant on beach property owned by the city of Ventura.
The city is seeking proposals from those interested in taking over a 3,800-square-foot site formerly occupied by Charlie’s Seaside Cafe & Restaurant.
The property is on the Promenade, across from the Holiday Inn at the end of California Street. It’s part of a three-store, 5,800-square-foot complex that is being offered as a master lease.
A few hundred feet away, Ventura officials still hope to find someone to operate a restaurant to be built at the foot of the refurbished Ventura Pier.
The deadline for those bids has been extended to Oct. 1--the same date proposals are due on the former Charlie’s location.
Terry Adelman, Ventura’s director of management resources, said two potential restaurant operators have expressed interest in the California Street property.
He added that the city might also consider leasing out a multilevel parking structure in which the California Street stores are located.
