CAMARILLO : 2 Sought in Robbery of Credit Union

Investigators are searching for two men who robbed a Camarillo credit union in the county’s first takeover bank robbery of the year, an FBI official said Tuesday.

The robbery occurred at the Point Mugu Federal Credit Union, 751 E. Daily Drive, in Camarillo about 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Witnesses told investigators that two men entered the credit union and ordered approximately 10 customers and employees to get on the floor.

One suspect then jumped over the counter and stuffed money from two tellers’ drawers into a pillowcase. The other suspect stood in the middle of the lobby holding a semiautomatic pistol, Dick said.

Both suspects then ran out the door and sped off in a white Blazer or Bronco.

FBI Special Agent Larry Dick said similar takeover bank robberies have occurred recently in Los Angeles County. Investigators believe the same two suspects may be responsible for at least three of those.

“They had basically the same routine, the same method of operation,” Dick said.

The first suspect was described as a black man in his mid-30s, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. The second suspect was a white male in his late 20s with light brown hair. Both were clean-shaven and dressed in jeans.

Monday’s bank robbery was the 41st in Ventura County this year, compared to 76 by this time last year.
