South Pasadena : Ruling on Ex-Mayor’s Suit
A Pasadena Superior Court Judge on Tuesday ordered the city to pay former South Pasadena Mayor Lee Prentiss $46,000 in attorney fees in a legal battle over expansion plans for his house.
The former mayor got back his building permit to expand his 86-year-old Craftsman house in July after the state Supreme Court rejected the city’s appeal of an appellate court ruling. That ruling said the city had wrongfully revoked Prentiss’ permit to expand his 3,500-square-foot Oaklawn Avenue home.
In a separate lawsuit filed in Pasadena Superior Court in March, Prentiss alleged that city officials violated his civil rights by denying the permit. The lawsuit charges that the permit was denied because of his conservative political and fundamentalist religious beliefs.
City officials have rejected the charges as nonsense and say they were only trying to preserve what they say is a historic home.
